You wanna make us imagine? Sensory words help. A lot. Make us hear, taste, see, feel and/or smell to grab our attention and keep us interested. Let's look at a couple examples.
Sensory words are descriptive words.
Sensory words are descriptive words that apply to our 5 senses:
Make us see: gloomy, sparkling
Make us hear:squeaky, piercing
Make us feel: icy, sharp, sticky
Make us taste: bitter, zesty
Make us smell: sweet, stinky
When you appeal to our 5 senses, you make us imagine your product, service, or whatever scenario you are describing a lot more. Let's look at an example.
Bose Sleepbuds does it right.
Let's look at how Bose is marketing their Bose Sleepbuds II:
"Everyday stress. Snoring. Noisy neighbors. There’s plenty that keeps you awake. Introducing Sleepbuds™ II. Tiny and comfortable, Sleepbuds™ work with the Bose Sleep app to deliver relaxing sounds to help you fall asleep, and use Bose noise-masking technology so you stay asleep all night."
Did you spot the sensory words in that short description? Let me highlight them for you:
"Everyday stress. Snoring. Noisy neighbors. There’s plenty that keeps you awake. Introducing Sleepbuds™ II. Tiny and comfortable, Sleepbuds™ work with the Bose Sleep app to deliver relaxing sounds to help you fall asleep, and use Bose noise-masking technology so you stay asleep all night."
There are a couple more, but these are the less subtle ones:
Sound: snoring, noisy, relaxing sounds, noise-masking
Sight: tiny
Touch: comfortable
Add some sparkle to your business blogs and copywriting.
Listen, I know you wanna be professional and all. But that doesn't mean your writing has to be boring. Make us imagine why we should invest our money in your product or service. Let's do one more example.
Instead of saying:
These bed frames are made from the best materials and stay as good as new for at least 10 years.
Write this:
These bed frames stay squeak-free for at least 10 years.
We don't know what "the best materials" are. It's pretty vague. And for somebody who's not in that business, even if you tell me the material, I wouldn't know if it's the "best" one.
But if you tell me my bed frame is going to be squeak-free for at least 10 years, now you have my attention. I know what that means. You made me imagine a little part of your product.
Do you wanna use sensory words to describe your offer and need a little help with that? Send me a message and let’s get started.
