3 Tips to Create Click-Worthy Headlines that Don't Get Ignored

create click-worthy headlines

Do you know about the number psychology that gets some headlines more clicks? It shouldn't come as a surprise that numbers in headlines work. They grab our attention. But which ones work better and why? In this blog, we'll discuss what type of number psychology you can use to create click-worthy headlines that don't get ignored.

Headline tip no.1: Use odd numbers.

Use odd numbers because they generally perform better than even numbers. Especially number 7. Just look at Neil Patel's blog. The majority of his number-based headlines have the number 7 in them.

Pro tip: add a power word if applicable. Here's an example:

Convert this headline:

"10 ways that help you lose weight."

Into this headline:

"7 want that help you lose weight in less than X months."

The power words are "in less than", which indicates we'll read about effective, yet quick ways.

Headline tip no.2: use specific numbers.

Using specific numbers catches our attention more. Specific numbers feel more trustworthy. Like we didn't just stuff our blog with tips to get to number 15.

Convert this headline:

"15 brilliant tips to increase your website traffic."

Into this headline:

"12 brilliant tips to increase your website traffic."

Headline tip no.3: don't overwhelm your readers.

Avoid high numbers, cause they may overwhelm your readers. Nobody is looking for dozens of tools to help them with the same thing. Maybe keep it under 10.

Convert this headline:

"45 marketing tools that'll increase your productivity."

Into this headline:

"9 marketing tools that'll increase your productivity."

The number 9 is an odd number, it's specific, and it certainly won't overwhelm your readers.

Headline bonus tip no.4: add the current year.

A bonus tip for the ones that made it all the way here: add the current year in your headlines. It tells us the information we're about to read is up to date.

Convert this headline:

"12 brilliant tips to increase your website traffic."

Into this headline:

"12 brilliant tips to increase your website traffic in 2024."
